Textures & Patterns

I’ve never lived close enough to walk to the shore daily.

Drive, sure—I did grow up in Eastern CT and just spent the last decade+ on the West Coast, so I haven’t been land-locked by any means.

But we weren’t really walking distance to the shore. OK, so Jon walking distance—but he’s a walking machine so that doesn’t count.

Being this close, and having a lovable big dog that needs her daily long walk—I’m heading to the shore quite often, as you may have noticed if you follow me on Instagram.

And there’s this new to me experience that just delights: when the tide goes out on the expanse of the Sandymount Strand, it’s out so far that you can walk on sand that has these gorgeous ripples, textures and patterns. And it’s so compact that you don’t sink in, so you barely make a mark yourself. You see and feel this nature-made texture and it’s just mesmerizing.

So, I’ve started taking pictures of textures that have caught my eye. Maybe they’ll inspire some art at some point, maybe they just exist for enjoyment as-is. I haven’t used any photo filters on any of these pictures, so the lighting and color of the sand really depends on the day and the wild Irish weather.

Wherever this creative exploration takes me, I hope you’ll follow along…
